At Glebe School, we aim to teach a broad and balanced curriculum that enables children to enjoy, achieve and succeed in line with the National Curriculum. We provide opportunities to develop the children’s cultural capital, for example through celebrating historical events from around the world and curriculum related trips. Through teaching History, we ensure that they are life-long learners, who are ready for the next step of their education and to thrive in society. We teach History through a cross-curricular approach, which aims to give our children rich experiences, in and out of the classroom, which they can build upon. Furthermore, we explore recent events and understand that history is created everyday. We aim for pupils to develop and become confident historians by providing high-quality teaching and different experiences to inspire and engage them, thus developing a love of the past. We plan topics throughout their time at Glebe that enable them to develop on the skills that begin in Nursery. Each year is then a natural step. As pupils progress, they should develop a broad understanding of history by learning about a range of historical events (local and worldwide), whilst developing their history chronology knowledge. As a result, the children will have the ability to speak confidently about history and recognise the importance of history in society today.
